Viney Sue Rigney Jones

Mrs. Viney Sue Rigney Jones, age 92 of Cana, VA passed away on November 21, 2008 at Waddell Nursing Home in Galax, VA. Mrs. Jones was born in Carroll County VA, on December 25, 1915 to the late Henley Thomas and Martha Elizabeth Vaughn Rigney. She was a graduate of Elon College and retired from the Surry County School System. She was an active member with the Carroll Community Center, serving in various roles and a member of Rocky Ford Christian Church. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carleen and James Braunns of Ormond Beach, FL; a son and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Barbara Jones of Cana, VA; grandchildren and spouses, Susan DeMaire of Ormond Beach, FL, Dr. Rhonda Beth Hanser and husband Donald of Marine, IL, Mark Jones and wife, Dana of Cana, Jeffrey Jones and wife Joy of Nazareth PA, Daniel Jones of Cana; nine great-grandchildren, Katie Hanser, Kellie Hanser, Kristen Hansen, Glen DeMaire, Mercedes Anders, Peydon Jones, Kaleigh Jones, Auston Jones and Kenzlee Jones. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Oscar Franklin Jones; a sister, Bessie Phillips; two half sisters, Essie Easter and Lettie Edwards; two half brothers Gifford "Bill" Rigney and Ben Rigney. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 24, 2008 at Rocky Ford Christian Church by Rev. Billy Moore with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday, November 23, 2008 at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
