Mrs. Viola Mae Carter Atkins, 90, of Ararat, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at Central Continuing Care in Mount Airy. Mrs. Atkins was born April 3, 1916, in Henry County, VA, to the late William and Rebecca Wheatley Carter. She was a homemaker and a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Larry Atkins of Ararat and Helen and Lonnie Easter of Cana, VA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Brenda Atkins and Roger and Betty Atkins, all of Ararat; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; a sister, Mozelle Badgett of Dobson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Atkins, Sr.; three infant children, Claude Atkins, Jr., Edwin Atkins, and Patricia Ann Atkins; and a sister Mary Lee Barneycastle. The funeral service will be held Friday, October 27, 2006, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Bill Watson and the Rev. Steve Johnson. Burial will follow in the Watson Family Cemetery in Ararat. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, Mr. Bill Hiatt, and Central Continuing Care Nursing Staff and Facility for their love and care.
