Viola B. Stephens Cashwell

Mrs. Viola B. Stephens Cashwell, age 98, of Mount Airy, NC and widow of Mr. G. Barney Cashwell for 38 years, died at the Northern Hospital of Surry County on Tuesday night. Mrs. Cashwell was born December 22, 1908 in Columbia, S.C. the youngest daughter of Harold and Bonnell Stephens. Mrs. Cashwell grew up in Atlanta, GA, where she was active in civic organizations, particularly the Atlanta regional chapter of the DAR. Mrs. Cashwell was a long standing member of Central United Methodist Church of Mount Airy, NC. She is survived by one daughter, Edith Lynn Cashwell of the home. Mrs. Cashwell is survived by sons, George B. Cashwell and his wife, Frankie of Mount Airy, and John E. Cashwell and his wife Ann of Hertford, NC. Her surviviors also include seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; David and Jennifer Cashwell and children, Grey, Jackson, and Sydney of Blacksburg, VA; Kenny and Becky Cashwell of Charleston, SC; Allison Lee Cashwell of Fort Collins, Colorado; John E. Cashwell, Jr. and his wife, Rachel, and children John E. Cashwell, III, Emma and James of Garden City, New York; Michelle and Michael Bowker and children Megan and Sydney of Glenville, New York, and Mitchell and Michael Cashwell of New York, NY. Mrs. Cashwell is also survived by four nieces and one nephew: Helen Edwardson of Charlotte, and Margaret Aderholt of Matthews, NC; Dava Cashwell Cox of Greensboro, NC; Linda Jewel of Lake Wylie, SC, Barbara McCauley of Rocky Mount, NC and Roger Earl Stephens of Huntsville, Al. The funeral service will be held Saturday November 24, 2007 at 1:00 PM at the Central United Methodist Church with the service conducted by Rev. John Ferree with interment to follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. The Cashwell family will receive friends in the Ladies' Parlor of Central United Methodist from 12 Noon until the hour of the service.
