Viola Scott Martin

Mrs. Viola Scott Martin, 94, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, August 27, 2024, at her home. Mrs. Martin was born February 5, 1930, in Patrick County, VA, one of nine children born to the late Roby Hoston and Roxie Zina Hall Scott. On April 12, 1957, Viola married Bobby Leon Martin, and together they were a vital part of the Mount Airy community for many years. She dedicated her life to the creation of a loving home for her family and was the source of ceaseless support. In 1976, Viola and Bobby founded Tractor Parts Company in Mount Airy, serving many local farmers with parts and equipment needed to operate their farms. She worked tirelessly until she was 90 years old, and she was a member of Dover Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Snow of Dobson and Kathy Martin of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Becky Martin of Mount Airy; her grandchildren, Josh Martin and Hannah Martin, both of Mount Airy, Jenna and Jay Levins of Boston, MA, Blake and Michelle Collins of Colombo, Sri Lanka, and Lindsey and Adam Browder of Newport News, VA; her great-grandchildren, Kenley Collins, Judah Collins, and Iylah Collins, all of Colombo, Sri Lanka, Levi Browder of Newport News, VA, and Jamey Levins of Boston, MA; and her extended family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Leon Martin; a son-in-law, Jerry Snow; two infant sisters; four sisters, Mettie S. Gwynn, Lila S. Comer, Emma M. Scott, and Isabel S. Golding; and two brothers, Gilbert R. Scott and Leonard Scott. The funeral service will be held Friday, August 30, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Larry Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Dover Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Dover Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 179 Dover Church Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
