Viola Lee Sechrist Spencer

Mrs. Viola Lee Sechrist Spencer, 84, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, April 13, 2009, at Universal Health Care in King. Mrs. Spencer was born April 30, 1924, in Surry County, to the late Lee and Fannie Phillips Sechrist. She was a homemaker and attended Zephyr Baptist Church. Mrs. Spencer is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Ronald Mitchell of Galax, VA, and Martha and Johnny Ray Hayes of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael Woodrow and Pat Spencer of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Cynthia Boyd, Annette Flores, Jeffery Spencer, Carlton Hayes, Jason Mitchell, Michelle Felts, Melissa Johnson, and Melinda Poole; stepgrandchildren, Lynn Roberts, Ricky Roberts, and Danny Roberts; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a special brother-in-law and his wife, Marshall Mack and Lilla Belle Spencer of Toast. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Spencer was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow George Spencer; a daughter, Betty Lee Spencer; a son, Wayne Spencer; a sister, Addie McQueen; and brothers, Richard Sechrist, Joe Sechrist, Henry Sechrist, and Luther Sechrist. The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 16, 2009, at 4:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. J.T. Blevins and the Rev. Ricky Atkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Hollow Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 15, 2009, from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
