Mrs. Violet Spurlock Dickens, 79, widow of the Rev. Vibert Dickens, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, February 21, 2010, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Raleigh County, West Virginia, September 21, 1930, to the late Donald Darrell and Gertrude Ball Spurlock. Mrs. Dickens was homemaker and dedicated her life to God and her family. Left to cherish her memory are her loving daughters, Teresa Gentry of the home and Robin and husband Kevin Brickell of Siloam; a dear son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Pricilla Dickens of Beckley, West Virginia; five grandchildren, Terra and husband Michael Parker of Ararat, Derek Dickens of Beckley, West Virginia, Austin Brickell, Ryan Brickell and Ashley Brickell, all of Siloam; three great-grandchildren, Joshua Parker, Jonathan and Joanna Parker and Morgan Riley Dickens; a sister, Phyllis White of Danville, West Virginia Virginia; and a brother, Clyde Burnside of Ohio. In addition to her parents, Mrs., Dickens was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, the Rev. Vibert Dickens, who entered the gates of heaven on November 9, 2009; and two sisters, Ruth Stewart and Bonnie Hunter. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 23, 2010, in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home, by the Rev. Randy Parrish. Burial will follow in Freedom Gospel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until the hour of the service.
