Mrs. Violette Wolfe Reece passed away peacefully at Ridgecrest Assisted Living Center in Mount Airy, NC on Friday, February 28, 2014 with Hospice in attendance. She was born on March 13, 1922, in Surry County to the late Raymond and Maude Wolfe. She graduated from Boonville High School with honors and in 1940 married William Harold Reece. She was a long-time member of Salem Fork Baptist Church, Twin Oaks Road where she taught Sunday School, was very active in the Homebound Ministry and worked many summers in VBS. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a wonderful cook, an avid reader, a great seamstress and a very good Bridge player, but above all she loved the Lord and lived her life accordingly. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, her youngest daughter, Beth Reece Humber, a beloved granddaughter, Amber Aileen Rollins, parents and a sister, Frances Wolfe. She is survived by her other children, Barbara Reece Alford of Advance, Gary (Fran)Reece of Dobson, David (Judy) Reece of Dobson; Brenda Reece Rollins of Advance, 8 grandchildren, Patrick (Susan) Alford, Darrin (Katherine) Alford, Amy (Marc) Hanson,Kristi (Donald)Freeman,Hank Rollins, Melissa (Jesse) Gessler, Matthew Reece and Ashley (Josh) Stanley; and 10 great grandchildren, Kaylee Alford, Emma Grace Alford, Alexis Stanley, Grant Stanley, Reece Hanson, Katie Branch, Natalie Branch, Colin Freeman, Jared Gessler and Hanna Gessler;three sisters, Ruth Wilmoth, Betty Key (Paul) Jones and Annette (Delano) Fowler. Funeral services will be held at Salem Fork Baptist Church at 3 pm Sunday, March 2, 2014, with the Rev. Van Brindle and the Rev. Dan Merritt officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Fork Baptist Church Building Fund, 555 Twin Oaks Road, Elkin NC 28621 or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200 Mount Airy NC 27030. The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff at Ridgecrest Retirement Center for the love and care they gave their Mother the last seven years. They also wish to thank Hospice for their care over the past few days. Moody Davis Funeral Home is serving the Reece family.
