Mrs. Virginia Opal McMillion Holyfield Brown, formerly of Dobson, passed away peacefully on Sunday January 17, 2010 at Elkin Healthcare with her loving family by her bedside. She was born in Carroll County, Virginia on July 18, 1921 to the late G.W. and Martha Jane McMillion. Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and was retired from Wayne Farms. She was a dedicated member of Bear Creek Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Norma L. Holyfield Nichols of Elkin; a son and daughter-in-law, Jackie and Una Holyfield of Dobson; step daughters and step sons-in-law Tommy and Brad Davis of Yadkinville, Norma Sue and Ronald York of Elkin; five grandchildren, Craig and Sandra Holyfield, Janet Blackburn, Vicky and Randal Mitchem, Marty and Christie Holyfield, and Eric and Cagney Nichols; six great-grandchildren, Hannah Holyfield, Nathan Holyfield, Kristen Blackburn, Katlin Laffoon, Olivia Mitchem, and Conner Nichols; a sister, Julie Mae Davis of Liberty, NC. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husbands, Henry Arvil Holyfield and Thomas L. Brown; two sisters Stella Hutchins and Flossie Baker; son-in-law Mark Nichols; brother and sister-in-law "Buck" and Posie McMillion. Funeral services will be held 2 :00 PM Wednesday January 20, 2010 in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson with burial to follow in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Dan Buie is officiating the services. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 P.M. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Bear Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 2932 Twin Oaks Rd., Elkin, NC 28621. Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the Brown family.
