Virginia "Kathleen" Brown

Virginia “Kathleen” Cain Brown, age 88, passed away on Monday, January 25th, at Brookridge Baptist Retirement Community Nursing Facility in Winston-Salem, NC.  She was born in Surry County, North Carolina, to Henry and Minnie McKinney Cain on September 21, 1932.  Mrs. Brown was a widow to her husband of fifty years, Paul Julius Brown.  Before residing at the Brookridge facility, Mrs. Brown lived in the Shoals Community of Pinnacle, North Carolina.  She was a homemaker and a loving mother to her daughter, and a caregiver to her elderly parents and husband, whose health declined in later years.  Mrs. Brown was also an active member of Pinnacle View Baptist Church and the Pinnacle View WMU as long as her health permitted.  Graduating valedictorian from Shoals High School and afterwards attending Draughn’s Business College in Winston-Salem, she raised crops of tobacco with her father, and helped grow and prepare gardens for her family as long as she and her husband were able.  During her lifetime she had several jobs outside of the home; two of her favorite, were working in the offices at Hennis Freight Lines and New Farmers and Dixie Tobacco Warehouses.  Mrs. Brown was an expert seamstress and created beautiful outfits for her daughter, herself, and other family members. In her retirement years, she joined a class at the Pilot Mountain Armfield Center, learned how to knit, and made several close friends from the group.

     Surviving to cherish Mrs. Brown’s memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Mark Boyles of Pilot Mountain.  She also has several cousins, neighbors and her church family.  Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Brown’s service are set for Tuesday, February 2nd at Pinnacle View Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.  Visitation will start at 1:00 PM and the funeral service will begin at 2:00, with the Rev. Ronnie Chamblin, Sr. presiding.  Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery.

     Mrs. Brown’s daughter wishes to thank the excellent care provided to her mother by the nurses, aides and therapists at Brookridge during Mrs. Brown’s residence at the nursing facility.  Moody Funeral Services of Mount Airy, NC is assisting Mrs. Brown’s family with the funeral preparations.
