Virginia Minnie Carter

On Sunday, July 1, 2018, Mrs. Virginia Minnie Brannock Carter completed her life’s work here on Earth and her soul made its way to her new heavenly home.  Mrs. Carter had many roles in life.  She was a loving daughter to her parents, born April 1, 1927, to her father, the late Richard William Brannock and mother, the late Minnie Sarah Brown Brannock. She was also a devoted sister, the eldest of eight children. She was a loving and supportive wife to her late husband, Arthur Franklin Carter and a wonderful mother to her son, A. Randal Carter, who loved her very much and will miss her greatly.  Virginia was born in and lived her entire life here in Mount Airy.  She attended the Mount Airy City Schools; she met and married the love of her life, her husband Arthur after World War II.  In 1946 they were married and were together for over 61 years until his death in 2007.  Virginia lived her life by the golden rule and was of the Christian Faith.  In addition to her being a great homemaker and cook, Mrs. Carter completed a working career of 43 years at Spencer’s Inc.  After retirement, she continued to serve this community as a volunteer for two years at Reeves Community Center.  She loved reunions, get-togethers and connecting with her family and many friends.  Mrs. Carter’s husband Arthur was active in the Franklin Ruritan Club for over 30 years.  As his wife, she attended many Ruritan functions including the yearly regional meeting at Benton Convention Center in Winston-Salem.  Special times in Mrs. Carter’s life were the trips she and Arthur took to Disney World in Florida and Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee with their good friends Pete and Linda Teague of Greensboro, NC.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her brothers Richard (Buck) Brannock, Jack Brannock and Mitchell Brannock.  In addition to her son, she is survived by two sisters, Mary Lynn Childress and husband, Lee of Mount Airy, and Mrs. Vivian Thompson and husband, Brian of Cleveland, TN, and by two brothers, Jerry Brannock of Mount Airy and Ralph Arnold Brannock of Greenville, SC.  Mrs. Carter is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Ethel Brannock, Kathrine Brannock, and Teresa Brannock all of Mount Airy, special nieces Betty Edwards, and Carol (Cookie) Johnson of Mount Airy, and Glenda Hunter of Pilot Mountain, special nephews Marty Brannock, Steve Brannock, and Bill Stewart of Mount Airy, and many other nieces, nephews and other relative and friends, special friends Essie Johnson, and Inez Hooker of Mount Airy, Joe and Carlene Galyean, Theresa Hughes, and Tamara Carter.  At Mrs. Carter’s request, there will be no formal visitation, however, everyone is asked to gather at Moody Funeral Home beginning at 12:30 until the time to depart for the graveside service at Skyline Memory Gardens at 2:00 PM, on Tuesday, July 3, 2018.  The service will be conducted by the Reverend Bud Cameron.  A special thanks to all her caregivers including the emergency department and 2nd floor staff at Northern Hospital, especially Dr. Lawing, Novant Health nurses and staff and her doctor Mark Dodd, Novant Oncology, and Dr. Hines, also to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care especially Melissa and Jennifer and the staff of Woltz Hospice Home.  Floral tributes will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care at 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030, to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
