Mrs. Virginia Alice Morrison Gardner, 94, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Gardner was born January 4, 1915, in Patrick County, VA, to the late Charles and Mary Martin Morrison. She was a homemaker and retired from Blue Bell Industries in Greensboro. Mrs. Gardner was a member of Grace Moravian Church. She is survived by a sister, Sue Irene Nelson of Mount Airy; three special nieces and a spouse, Mickey Murib of Winston-Salem, Nelda Thomas and Mary and David Jenkins, all of Mount Airy; several other nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; and several great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gardner was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Ed Gardner; a sister, Ethel Johnson; and three brothers, Tom Morrison, Pete Morrison, and Monk Morrison. The funeral service will be held Friday, June 5, 2009, at 3:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Tony Hayworth officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 2:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home. The family may also be contacted at other times at the home of David and Mary Jenkins, 1542 Forest Drive, Mount Airy. The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Workman, Dr. Motew, Dr. Kimball, and the nurses in ICU and Palliative Care Unit at Forsyth Medical Center for their care and compassion.
