Virginia Dare Hiatt

Mrs. Virginia Dare Wright Hiatt, age 92 of Dobson, NC passed away at the Woltz Hospice Home on Thursday December 16, 2021. She was born in Surry County on November 1, 1929, to the late George Samuel Wright and Nancy Gilley Wright. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church and a retired housewife. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, the love of her life, Willie James Hiatt; two brothers Buddy Monroe Wright and Franklin Wright.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in -law, Gloria Hiatt-Cribbs and Alan; of Pinnacle, Shirley Ann Hiatt Simpson and Keith, of Dobson; granddaughter, Megan Adare Simpson Quance (Christopher), and one great-grandson, William Blake Quance of Dobson. She is also survived by three sisters, Geneva Brown, Clarine Shinault of Dobson and Georgia Frick (Danny) of Mount Airy and one brother James Douglas Wright (Dale) of Dobson.

Virginia had many talents, not only was she a mother and housewife but she enjoyed working with children that needed assistance in reading at Central Middle School. In 1998 she received the volunteer of the year award. She also worked at the local food pantry.

Virginia was known for her love for roses, any other flowers from her personal garden, which she shared with her family, church, and friends throughout the community.
Virginia was a seamstress, made her clothing along with her children’s. She also made clothing for others when asked. Another one of her talents, was quilting, which was a good use for the scraps from all the clothing she made. She loved to sing in her church choir with family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at 2:00 pm at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Trent Lyons and Rev. Jeff Wall officiating. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
