Virginia Carter Marion

Virginia Carter Marion, 83, a longtime resident of Mount Airy died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her family after a long decline in her health. She was the daughter of the late Carlton Lanier Carter and Anna Noel Wallace Carter. She is preceded in death by all six of her siblings and her beloved granddaughter Anna Noel Irby. Virginia (Jenny) is survived by her son Kenneth Dwight Marion of Concord, daughter Carolyn Noel Marion Irby (Dave, deceased) of Mt. Airy, and son David Royce Marion (Wendy) of Hillsborough, NC, as well as nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Virginia enjoyed a long career as a seamstress in Mount Airy. Her specialty was alterations. She began sewing early in her childhood, taught by her sister Shirley. As a teenager she continued her craft at J.L. Harrison and Co., and proudly taught the sewing part of her own home economics class in high school. After a few years working at Spencer’s Hosiery, she started her own business working from home. She had many loyal and devoted customers with whom she developed long lasting friendships. Virginia was known for her excellent cooking and baking and her especially scrumptious angel biscuits, fresh coconut cakes and apple sauce cakes that were always a hit at any gathering. Virginia loved photography particularly capturing nature scenes along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Virginia will be missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held at Moody Funeral Home on Monday, October 31 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family suggests sending donations to https://www.speedwaycharities.org/donate/
