Virginia Rachel Parries Massey

Mrs. Virginia Rachel Parries Massey, 99, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at her home. Mrs. Massey was born September 19, 1917, in Surry County, one of eleven children born to the late John Ashby Parries and Eliza Jane Parries Belton. Virginia retired from Renfro Corporation and was a faithful member of Flippin Memorial Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Ann Massey Draughn and Dean Draughn; three sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip Van Massey and Sheila Parker Massey, Steven Michael Massey and Sue Thomas Massey, and Paul Douglas Massey and Peggy Ann Childress Massey; her grandchildren, Karen Russo, Dean Draughn, Jr., Sharon Massey Barton, Melissa Massey Lockhard, Jonathan Massey, and Rebecca Wiley; six great-grandchildren, two sisters, Ruth Thacker and Ruby Goins; special friends, Peggy Martin, Wanda Dillard, and Cossie Ayers; and a special nephew, Dale Parries. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Massey was preceded in death by her husband, Davis Cosby Massey; eight siblings; and many friends. A graveside service will be held Friday, March 31, 2017, at 11:00 AM at God’s Acre, with the Rev. Tim Burton and Dr. David Sparks officiating. The family will receive friends Friday at the home of Mrs. Massey from 1:00 until 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Flippin Memorial Baptist Church, 1344 McBride Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
