Ms. Virginia Landrum Nichols, 84, passed away Monday, January 16, 2017, in Mount Airy. Ms. Nichols was born January 13, 1933, in Raleigh, the only child born to the late James and Virginia Branch Landrum. Virginia grew up in Raleigh and graduated from Hugh Morson High School. She attended Peace College in Raleigh and later worked for the North Carolina Medical Society as a receptionist for 13 years. Virginia was an active member of Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh for many years. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, and visiting with family whenever possible. Most recently, she lived in West Jefferson. Virginia is survived by her son, David Wayne Nichols of Nitro, WV; and her grandchildren, Philip, Peter, Luke, Carly, and Chelsea. In addition to her parents, Ms. Nichols was preceded in death by an infant son, Philip Nichols; and a daughter-in-law, Shelly Costello Nichols. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 1:00 PM at Edenton Street United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Edenton Street United Methodist Church, 228 West Edenton Street, Raleigh, NC 27603. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Nichols family.
