Mrs. Virginia Elizabeth "Lizzie" Chandler Stevens, 83, of 144 East Crosswinds Court, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday evening, January 28, 2009, at her home. Mrs. Stevens was born December 3, 1925, in Guilford County, to the late Arthur and Edna Hunter Chandler. She was a homemaker and a member of Lighthouse Community Church. Her love of Jesus Christ will be long remembered by her family and friends. She is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty and Fred Lawson of Ararat, VA, Linda Pack and fiance, Joe Eaton, and Michelle and John Hall, all of Mount Airy, and Nancy Pack and fiance, Robert Crockett, of Galax, VA; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Glenn Ray Stevens and Robert and Brenda Stevens, all of Ararat, VA; eleven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stevens was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Ray Stevens; a stepson, Herbert Lee Stevens; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Lawson; two sisters; and four brothers. The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Lighthouse Community Church, with the Rev. Johnny Easter, the Rev. Tommy Vass, and the Rev. Sammy Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in the Willis Gap Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.
