Virginia Kathryn "Kat" Childress Sutphin

Mrs. Virginia Kathryn "Kat" Childress Sutphin age 98 of Mt. Airy passed away Friday night April 5, 2013 at Central Continuing Care in Mt. Airy. Mrs. Sutphin was born April 2, 1915 in Surry County to the late Matt and Susan Jane Thomas Childress. Mrs. Sutphin was retired from the Hosiery Industry and was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law Kay Sutphin Nicholson and husband Jim of Milton, GA., Elaina Sutphin Noonkester and husband Steve of King, NC two sons and daughters-in-law Gary Sutphin and wife Peggy of Granbury, TX, Ricky Sutphin and wife Joyce of Mt. Airy, nine grandchildren and spouses Greg and Lisa Sutphin of Austin, TX, Taeger Sutphin of Arlington, TX, Suzanne and Patrick Smith of Dawsonville, GA, Heather Nash of Davidson, NC, Bart and Gail Nicholson of Cumming, GA., Chris and Velvet Leonard of Cana, VA Lindsey and Ryan Postlethwait of Boone, NC, Amanda Noonkester of King and Matthew and Kristen Noonkester of Winston Salem, NC.; thirteen great grandchildren; two sisters Elaine Doggett of Mt. Airy, NC and Phoebe Martin of Rockledge, FL and one brother and sister-in-law Frank and Lavinia Childress of Mt. Airy, NC. In addition to her parents Mrs. Sutphin was preceded in death by her husband Elbert Sutphin and by three sisters Gladys Haynes, Francis Childress and Ruth George and by a brother Haywood Childress. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Bannertown Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
