Virginia Frances Thompson Turney

Mrs. Virginia Frances Thompson Turney, 92, of 935 North Franklin Road, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday night, March 30, 2010, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Turney was born April 27, 1917, in Patrick County, VA, to the late Murry and Ruth Frances Childress Thompson. She retired from Spencer's Inc. and was a member of Northside Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Blanche and Stuart Willis of Ararat, VA, and Gracie and Bobby Kincaid of Mount Airy; two granddaughters, Debbie Spence of Ararat, VA, and Tammy Wright of Mount Airy; and two great-grandchildren, Colby Spence of Ararat, VA, and Ashley Anderson of Springs Lake. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Turney was preceded in death by her first husband, Dixie Boyd; her second husband, Robert Turney; a great-granddaughter, Brittany Nicole Hiatt; three sisters, Princess Goins, Cora Harold, and Katie Brim; and four brothers, Otis Thompson, Walter "Jack" Thompson, Robert "Bob" Thompson, and Alex Thompson. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 2, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Northside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dean Eaton officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to special friends Kathy Arrington, Wayne Arrington, and Daniel Davis and to Shane Champ at Central Continuing Care and to the rest of the staff there. A memoiral service will be held Friday April 2, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Northside Baptist Church.
