Mrs. Vivian Thomas Lakey, 87, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, May 21, 2021, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Lakey was born March 21, 1934, in Surry County, to the late George Ellis and Trusty Emiline Bryant Thomas. She retired from Brown-Wooten after 35 years of employment and was a faithful member of White Plains Baptist Church. She is survived by a grandson and his wife, Tim and Kim Lakey; three great-grandchildren, Anna Lakey, Ben Lakey, and Jaxon Lakey; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Kathleen and Raymond Payne, Delphia and Richard Chappell, and John Gery; a brother and three sisters-in-law, Terry and Nellie Thomas, Kaye Thomas, Patty Thomas; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lakey was preceded in death by her husband, Quiller Lincoln Lakey; a son, Steve Lakey; a sister, Nellie Gery; five brothers and two sisters-in-law, Herman and Casper Thomas, Aubrey Thomas, Kenneth Thomas, Mack Thomas, and Arvil and Delphia Thomas. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. David Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
