Wade Hampton Bowman

Mr. Wade Hampton Bowman, 89, of Cana, VA, passed away early Wednesday morning, September 25, 2019, at Grayson Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Independence, VA.  Mr. Bowman was born September 12, 1930, in Patrick County, VA, the son of the late James Manuel and Addie Minnie Smith Bowman.  Wade worked as a logger for many years and then he later worked at Whitey’s Radiator Shop.  He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ernie Jean Sechrist Bowman of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Posey Clayton Jones, Debbie and Ralph Gwynn, Sandra and Tony Sanchez, and Susan and Tony Horton, all of Cana, VA; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Donnie Combs of Mount Airy.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Wade Bowman; a grandson, Troy Gwynn; six sisters, Ocie B. Bowman, Pansy O. Bowman, Nancy Belle Willis, Lola B. Payne, Inis Mae Smith, and Iris B. Atkins; and ten brothers, James H. Bowman, General G. Bowman, Muncie O. Bowman, Ausby S. Bowman, Roden L. Bowman, Haywood N. Bowman, Odell L. Bowman, Millard B. Bowman, Pate E. Bowman, and J. Gilmer Bowman.  The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 28, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Anthony Thomas officiating.  Burial will follow in the Epworth United Methodist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Saturday from noon until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
