Wade Rufus Calloway

Wade Rufus Calloway, 84 of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2022, at the home of his niece.  Wade was born on September 27, 1937, in Surry County to the late Laura Leona Joyce Calloway and Reginald Maynard Calloway.  Wade served in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Elmendorf Air Force base in Anchorage, AK.  After military service, he worked for Renfro Corporation until he retired.  He was a member of Family Fellowship Chapel.  He loved being outside, gardening, walking, and biking on the greenways.  He is survived by two sisters, Mary Louise Martin and Martha Calloway Davis, both of Mount Airy; nephew, Scott and Diane Calloway of Cary, N.C.; nephew, David and Deborah Brintle of Mount Airy; nephew, Todd Martin of Mount Airy; niece, Penny and John de Bruin of Holland; nephew, Eric and Bethany Brintle of Fancy Gap, VA; niece, Angie and Alan Freeman of Mount Airy; nephew, Seth and Renee’ Davis of Thomasville, N.C.; nephew, Craig Martin of Mount Airy; great-nieces and nephews, William Calloway, Chelsea Brintle Hawks, Rachel Brintle Bridges, Madeline de Bruin, Liam de Bruin, Katie Brintle, Avery Brintle, Isaiah Freeman, Bethany Freeman Shupe, Elijah Freeman, Abigail Freeman, Lydia Freeman, Alexander Freeman, Rachel Freeman and Zeb Martin; one step-great-nephew, Joseph Freeman; great-great nieces and nephews, Ava and Emery Hawks, Harper Freeman, Abel Shupe, and Baby Freeman.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Calloway was preceded in death by a sister, Rachel Calloway Brintle; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Dale Davis and Reed Martin; and a brother, William "Bill" Calloway. Services will be held at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at 2:00.  Mr. Calloway will lie-in-state from 8:00 AM until the time of the service on Sunday.
