Wade Richard Simmons

Mr. Wade Richard Simmons, 77, of Cordele, GA, died Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, GA. Mr. Simmons was born May 25, 1933, in Surry County, NC, and was the son of the late Walter and Gertha Jones Simmons. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he was a stone cutter and a member of the Baptist faith. He is survived by five daughters and two sons-in-law, Cindi and Mike Edalgo, Connie S. Hunt, and Cheryl Atkinson, all of Cordele, GA, Cathy and Mike Dorriety of Sylvester, GA, and Karen Spivey of Tampa, FL; six grandchildren, Frank Bullington, III, Lauren Edalgo, and Michael Edalgo, Jr., all of Cordele, GA, Cindy Sutton and her husband, Jeff, of Perry, GA, Erica Edalgo and her husband, Brian, of Ellaville, GA, and Leah Edalgo of Leesburg, GA; and four great-grandchildren, Savannah Sutton, Cohen Edalgo, Courtney Bailey, and McKenzie Bailey. In addition to his parents, Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by a brother, James Douglas Simmons; and a loving family member, Delores Simmons Hudgins. A graveside service will be held Friday, December 24, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Oakdale Cemetery in Mount Airy, NC, with Dr. Roger B. Gilbert officiating. There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Crisp Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 5007, Cordele, GA 31010.
