Mr. Wallace Allen (Wally) Johnson, Sr., age 79 of Mt. Airy, husband of Paula Scott Johnson, passed away at Northern Hospital of Surry County Sunday, April 29, 2007. Mr. Johnson was born in Moore County, North Carolina August 9, 1927 the son of the late Wallace Allen and Myra Daugherty Johnson. Mr. Johnson spent his childhood in Auburn, Alabama with his adopted father, Herman Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served during World War II. After his service in the Navy Mr. Johnson returned to Auburn where he graduated from Auburn University where he received his Pharmaceutical Degree. Mr. Johnson was the former owner of Turnmyre's Drug Store, founder of Hospital Pharmacy, founder of Wally's Pharmacy which he sold in 1992, and in 2002 founded Mayberry Pharmacy with his son, Allen Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where he has served two terms as Junior Warden on the Church Vestry. He was a member of Renfro Masonic Lodge, and the Oasis Shrine Temple. Mr. Johnson has been a volunteer with the Tharrington Elementary School's Reading Program for 6 years, and was a former volunteer with Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care. Surviving are his wife, Paula Scott Johnson of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Beau Outlaw of Mount Airy, and Libby and Bobby Lovill of Mount Airy; One son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Alison Johnson of Mount Airy; Grandchildren, Robert Lovill, Allen Lovill, Scott Outlaw, Mary Ellen Outlaw Graham and her husband, Charlie, Erin Johnson, Anna Johnson, Lizzie Johnson, Matt Johnson, and Cobb Outlaw and his wife, Annie; two sisters, Janet Foster of Kure Beach, NC, and Shirley Bowman of Radford, VA. In addition to his parents and adopted father, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by two sisters, Delores Miles, and an infant Elizabeth Johnson. A memorial service will be held Tuesday May 1, 2007 at 3:00 PM at Trinity Episcopal Church with the service conducted by Father Ray Hanna. The Johnson family will receive friends after the service in the Parish Hall of the church.
