Mr. Wallace Walker Leonard, 80, of 173 Busick Lane, Mount Airy, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 31, 2012, at his home. Mr. Leonard was born February 22, 1931, in Surry County, the son of the late Thomas Walker and Sarah King Leonard. He owned and operated a sawmill and logging company for many years and was a member of Zion United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Diane Dittmer Becker Leonard of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Marena James of Louisville, KY, and SuAnn and Keith Walton of Abingdon, VA; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Greg and Alane Leonard of Floyd, VA, Kent Leonard of Mount Airy, and Byron and Jill Leonard of Dobson; three stepchildren and their spouses, Greg and Mary Becker, Karen and Ronnie Weddle, and Lynn and Charles Hull, all of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Shirley Leonard Roberts of Seagrove and Rena and Duke Shelton of Mount Airy; three sisters-in-law, Fannie Leonard and Beulah Leonard, both of Mount Airy, and Arleda Dittmer of Cartersville, GA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Leonard was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters. The funeral service will be held Friday, February 3, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Barry Leonard and the Rev. Dennis Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Patient Support Program, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC 27157.
