Walsie Lee Callaway, 80, of State Road went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was born in Surry County on April 9, 1932 to the late Luther Free and Ila Mae Cockerham Callaway. Walsie was a lifelong resident of the Mountain Park area who lived her life devoted to God, her family and the community she dearly loved. She was a dedicated member of Mountain Park United Methodist Church where she faithfully attended for many years, and was the pianist as long as her health permitted. She leaves to cherish her memory her "Honorary grandchildren", James Mundy, Jr. Pat Bumgarner, Michael Callaway, Mitchell Callaway, Sheila Woods, B.J. Wright and Melanie Cook; her "Honorary great-grandchildren", Christopher Bumgarner, Jessica Mundy, Justin Mundy, Houston Callaway, Molly Callaway, Sarah Woods, Abby Callaway, Lydia Cook, Victoria Woods, Colby Callaway, Gabriel Wright, James Cook, Weston Cook, and Sawyer Wright; a brother-in-law, James "Jim" Mundy, Sr. of Catawba; a sister-in-law, Joyce Callaway of State Road; special cousins, Linville and Billy Ray Norman; an aunt, who she devotedly cared for, Geneva Sidden; special cousins,Linville and Billy Ray Norman. In addition to her parents, Walsie was preceded in death by her sister, Mary C. Mundy and a brother, J.P. Callaway and a very special friend, Linda Jennings. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday September 25, 2012 at Mountain Park United Methodist Church by Rev. Tony Bowman and Rev. Robert Waddell with burial to follow in the Mountain Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 8 pm at Moody-Davis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Park Methodist Church, Willing Workers Mountain Park Road, State Road, NC 28676.
