Walter Franklin Holder

Mr. Walter Franklin "Toehead" Holder, 71, of 106 Coral Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2011, at his home. He was born September 29, 1940, in Surry County, to the late Everett Franklin and Synester "Sina" Flippin Holder. He was a farmer, retired from Proctor-Silex Inc., and a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Betty Wright Holder of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rodney Dale and Ginger Holder of Mount Airy and Franklin Everett Holder and Michael Allen of Clemmons; two grandchildren, Travis Holder and his wife, Bridget, of Charleston, SC, and Jennifer Cruise and her husband, Anthony, of Clemmons; two great-grandchildren, Hunter Cruise and Jacoby Holder; several stepchildren; several stepgrandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Joyce and Richard Cooke of Moneta, VA, Frances and Dale Hawks of Lambsburg, VA, Lela and Gary McCaskill of Randleman, and Gail Holder of Elkin; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gordon and Dianne Holder of Lowgap and Jim and Freda Holder of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Holder was preceded in death by his first wife, Claudine Hawks Holder; a stepson, Willard Dale Puckett; a sister, Verona Branscome; and a brother, Karalyn Holder. The funeral service will be held Saturday, October 22, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Bill Spurlin officiating. Burial will follow in the Ivy Green Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
