Mr. Walter Reginald Lyman, III, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, surrounded by his family. He was born October 28, 1967, in Greenfield, MA, to Walter Reginald Lyman, Jr. and the late Suzanne Hinds Lyman. Mr. Lyman proudly served his country in the United States Army, receiving a honorable discharge on May 1, 1988. He served as a power generation equipment repairman. He received the Army Service Ribbon, Army Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, and marksman qualified badge M-16. Walt was employed by North Point Chrysler/Jeep in Winston-Salem until becoming ill. Walt was a graduate of Surry Community College and a member of the Christian faith. Mr. Lyman is survived by a son, Walter Reginald Lyman, IV (Reggie) of White Plains; and the mother of his son, Lyn Brintle Lyman and daughter, Lindsay Lee Boyan. Mr. Lyman is also survived by his loving family members, his dad and stepmother, Walter Reginald Lyman, Jr. and Debbie of New Salem, MA; three brothers, Casey Lyman of the home, Donny Lyman of Carbondale, CO, and Ryan Lyman of New Salem, MA; and a sister, Nikki Lyman and her daughter, Kelsie Lyman-Meade of New Salem, MA. Also, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Stan and Charlotte Hinds of Orange, MA; his paternal grandmother, Carole Lyman of Erving, MA; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins, of whom all were very special to him. In addition to his mother, Mr. Lyman was preceded in death by his grandfather, Walter Rreginald Lyman, Sr.; and an uncle, Stephen Hinds. The funeral service will be held Sunday, November 1, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Garry Snow officiating. Burial will follow in the Solid Rock Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:30 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home, and other times at the home of Lyn Brintle Lyman, 136 Brintle Circle, Mount Airy.
