Walter Roy Reid

Mr. Walter Roy Reid, 67, of 122 Welcome Baptist Church Road, Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Friday night, July 1, 2016, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Reid was born August 3, 1948, in Spartanburg County, SC, the son of the late Roy Lee and Edna Idumea Jones Reid. Walter worked as a mechanic for many years at Taylor’s Garage and the City of Mount Airy. He was a talented artist, fisherman, and scout and was a loving father and grandfather. Affectionately known as “Barney” to some friends and “Wild Man” to others, he was quick with a joke and was always a practical man. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kristal Reid Tickle and Keith Edward Tickle; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Walter Reid and Jennifer Botts Reid; two grandchildren, Morganna Katherine Reid and Catrina Joy Rothrock; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Patricia Ann and Vernon Puckett, Carolyn Raab, and Mattie and Robert Robbins; and special friends, Bob and Joyce Perry. In addition to his parents, Mr. Reid was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Lee Mobley Reid; his mother-in-law, Ossie Hiatt Mobley; and a grandson, Ian Reid Tickle. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 8, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dwight Sechrist officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
