Walter Russell Sparger

Mr. Walter Russell Sparger, 56, of the Beulah community, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021.  He was born October 30, 1964, in Surry County, to Goldie Juanita Sluder Sparger and the late Joseph Bryson “J.B.” Sparger.  Mr. Sparger was the owner and operator of 89 Amoco, and he was a protector and friend of the Beulah community.  He will be dearly missed by all his family and many friends.  In addition to his mother, Mr. Sparger is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Dale Cockerham and Cheryl and Kevin Hawks; two nephews, Jessie Cockerham and Dillon Hawks; a special girl, Taylor Newton Riddle, who looked at Walter as a father; and his best friend, his German Sheperd, Dixie Sparger.  In addition to his father, Mr. Sparger was preceded in death by a nephew, Stephen Butera.  The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Mike Shuford officiating.  Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home, and other times at his mother’s home.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Beulah United Methodist Church, c/o Church Treasurer, 5012 West Pine Street, Mount Airy, NC  27030.
