Walter Wesley Surratt

Mr. Walter Wesley Surratt, 83, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday night, October 13, 2016, at his home. Mr. Surratt was born June 11, 1933, in Carroll County, VA, the son of the late Ed and Kate Taylor Surratt. Wesley served our country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He retired as an account sales manager from Cross Creek Apparel after many years of service and was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Mr. Surratt was also a member of Renfro Masonic Lodge #691 AF and AM. He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Todd and Angela Surratt and Chris Surratt, all of Lake Norman, and Derrick and Kim Surratt of Brentwood, TN; eight grandchildren, Vaughn Surratt, Kaylyn Surratt, Elizabeth Surratt, Ethan Marion, Jared Marion, Kate Surratt, Lauren Surratt, and Reagan Surratt; a great-granddaughter, Hadleigh Surratt; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Gypsy Haynes and Toni and Curtis Hall, all of Mount Airy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kelly and Jo Surratt of Mount Airy and Mickey and Peggy Surratt of Hillsville, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Surratt was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Miller Surratt; and two sisters, Peggy Spencer and Edna McCraw. The funeral service will be held Sunday, October 16, 2016, at 3:00 PM at Highland Park Baptist Church, with Dr. Darrell Tate and the Rev. Sam Prince officiating. A private interment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at Highland Park Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Highland Park Baptist Church, 1327 Grove Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
