Walter Eric "Bill" Wood

Mr. Walter Eric “Bill” Wood, 78, of Mt. Airy, passed away at his home, Monday, January 2, 2023.  He was born in Surry County, October 31, 1944, to the late James Castevens and Lela Mae Wood Reece.  Mr. Wood retired from United Plastics after 35 years of service.  He was a quiet man who loved his family, cared deeply for his friends, and enjoyed the blessings of nature.  He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Billy Jo Johnson; sons, Cliff Wood, and Eric Linville and wife, Amy; grandchildren, Hallie Johnson, Emma Johnson, Breanna Wood, T.K. Largen, and Greg Linville; sisters, Linda Reece Aneshansley and Frances Phillips; a brother John Reece, Jr.; a sister-in-law, Joy Castevens; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Raylene Stanley Wood; a brother James Castevens; a nephew Jamie Castevens; and infant son, Ricky Wood.   A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 6, 2023, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ivan Tate officiating.  Full military honors will be conducted by the VFW Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.  The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Donna McBride Anderson with Home Instead, for the wonderful care she gave to “Bill” during his illness.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the VFW Honor Guard, 285 Pine Ridge Trail, Pinnacle, NC 27043.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com
