Mrs. Wanda Lou Johnson Dickens, age 86 of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Monday evening August 26, 2024, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. She was born November 1, 1937, in Surry County to the late Hardin Atkins Johnson, Sr. and Betty Lou Shelton Johnson. She was a member of New Home Church of Christ. Mama Wanda worked at Odells Sandwich Shop for many years and provided in home babysitting for many children throughout the years. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Derek Casstevens, three sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Frankie Dickens, Kenneth and Teresa Dickens, and Todd and Cindy Dickens; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a sister, Georgia Freeman; a brother and sister-in-law, Kyle and Shirley Johnson; her special fur baby. Lil Man; and by several other family and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dickens was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Bobby Elwood Dickens; 4 sisters, Myrtle Hawks, Margaret Feddon, Estelle Marion, and Beulah Cain; and by 6 brothers, H. A. Johnson, Jr., Donald Johnson, Malbert Johnson, John Johnson, J. Van Johnson, and George Johnson. Graveside services will be held on Thursday August 29, 2024, at 11:00am in the New Home Church of Christ Cemetery. The family would like to extend a huge thank you to the staff of Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for all of the love and compassion shown to Wanda and the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, North Carolina 27017 or to New Home Church of Christ, C/O James Draughn, 164 Pratt Road, Dobson, North Carolina 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
