Ms. Wanda Anita Snody Johnson, 82, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully at her twin sister’s home Monday night, January 25, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on October 13, 1938 in Henry Co., VA to the late Herbert Dee Snody and Gladys Greenwood Snody.  She was a beloved mother, aunt, and daughter who will be dearly missed by all that knew her.  Wanda loved working and helping others and she will be remembered for working at Ray’s Starlight, Food Lion, and later retiring from Kentucky Derby Hosiery.  Wanda and her twin sister Winnie volunteered at White Plains Elementary School for many years.  Wanda also had a passion for all her 4-legged fur babies and for that reason she fostered several dogs and volunteered countless hours with the Surry Animal Rescue.  Ms. Johnson will be lovingly remembered by her twin sister, Winnie S. Shelton; her brother, Michael G. Snody, Sr. and wife JoElla; her 4-legged companion, Leah; special nieces and nephews, Jacqueline T. Alcon, Debra B. Doss and husband Steve, Terry L. Shelton, Cheryl S. Welch and husband John, Lisa G. Thomas, Michael G. Snody, Jr. and wife Dana, Sharon S. Flynt and husband Mark, Rodney D. Shelton, and Susan S. Hindle and husband Terry; several great nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, Edgar “Pee Wee” Brim.  In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her precious son, William Bartley Johnson; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Joyce S. Thomas and husband Bill, and Gail S. Brim; her loving 4-legged companion, Tyco; and by two nephews, Joseph “Joey” D. Thomas, and C. Gray Bowman.  Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, a service of worship and celebration of Wanda’s life will be held later.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Wanda’s name to Surry Animal Rescue, 1106 S. Main St., Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Johnson family.
