Wanda Grey Slate

Mrs. Wanda Grey Dixon Slate, 78, of Mt. Airy passed away Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem.  She was born in Surry County on September 26, 1944, to the late Garvie Roe Dixon, Sr. and Nellie Jane Lowe Dixon.  Mrs. Slate retired from Quality Mills and was a faithful member of Genesis Full Gospel Church.  She is survived by her husband, Rev. Thomas Slate; daughters, Deedra Galyean, and Dora Jane Wilson; grandchildren, Carmella Beverly, Christin Beverly, Kevin Sumner, David Cook, Nathan Cook; fourteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sisters, Faye Southern, Lelia May Hinshaw; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roe Click Dixon and Helen, Keith Dixon and Jackie, Garvie Roe Dixon, Jr. and Jane; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Slate was preceded in death by a son, Michael James Pilcher; her first husband, Jimmy Hawks; a brother, Kenneth Carroll Dixon; brothers-in-law, Ray Southern, Austin Hinshaw.  A funeral service will be held Monday, May 1, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Genesis Full Gospel Church with the Rev. Donnie Hooker the Rev. Jay Bonds and the Rev. Ethan Hooker officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at Genesis full Gospel Church.  Moody Funeral Services in Mt.
