Wanda Gail Richardson Vogler

Whether it was serving her grandkids pizza muffins in her own kitchen, serving her students lunch in the school cafeteria or serving smiles and laughter anywhere else in life, Wanda Vogler made whomever she was with feel special. Our sweet mama joined Grandma Dolly, Willie, Pawpaw and all her other loved ones in heaven on Monday, January 24th at the age of 58. Born on February 10th, 1963 in Winston Salem, NC, Wanda lived in Pilot Mountain, NC for the entirety of her childhood and teenage years. Married to Matthew Tad Vogler on February 20th, 1982, Wanda was a dedicated wife of 39 years. They had 3 children; Josh (Magan), Tabitha (Chris), Kristen (Chase) and had 4 grandchildren; Avayah Danielle, Hadley Mae, Silas Kade and Hudson Duke. Wanda was an incredible mother to her children and Nana to her grandkids. Always there, no matter the situation, Wanda always prioritized her kids and grandkids and whatever they had going on in their life. Wanda was the biggest advocate and supporter for her kids and it goes without being said, but to put it lightly, you didn’t mess with Wanda’s kids. Whether it was chasing down a school bus in the middle of town to speak with the child making fun of her grandchild, threatening the athletic director of her son’s high school or simply being there for various sporting events and extra curricular activities, Wanda was 150% mama bear from start to finish! She was an extremely hard worker, regardless of the multiple ailments she experienced throughout the years. Ms. Wanda retired from the Stokes County School system as a cafeteria manager. She worked for Nancy Reynolds Elementary and Lawsonville Elementary but spent the majority of her career at Francisco Elementary. The title “Ms. Wanda” will probably resonate with many who are reading this document, as it is the primary way many of Wandas students, co-workers and friends within the Stokes County school system recognized her. Ms. Wanda was a larger than life character to so many of her students. Ms. Wanda was everyone’s lunchroom lady, but was so much more than that. Ms. Wanda would take the time to speak with so many kids coming through her lunch lines everyday. She loved forming relationships with her kids and being invested in their success through her continuous support and encouragement. From paying for kid’s lunches who couldn’t afford it, buying them gifts, coordinating and attending school dances along with many other school and community events; Wanda was 150% invested in her school kids as well. Not only did Ms. Wanda form those relationships with her kids in the early years, but she has kept those relationships. Up until her death, it wasn’t uncommon for Wanda to do things like go see one of her kids, from 10 years ago, graduate high school. Perhaps she might send a gift to one of her kids from years past, a gift she remembers her kid spoke of many years ago or even visit one of her prior co-workers and entertain them with one of her signature dances. The number of lives Ms. Wanda impacted in a positive manner, during her time in the Stokes County School system, is staggering. She loved all her kids and they loved her, very much. Wanda continued forming relationships and entertaining people, later in her life, while working at the Luna’s Trail Big Creek Lodge in Westfield, NC. Wanda worked as a waitress/host at the restaurant and was a big reason customers had such a pleasant time. Wanda would come around to each table and take the time to speak with everyone. She kept things amongst the staff light and entertaining through her shenanigan's like doing the Wobble dance in the kitchen while dressed as the Cat in the Hat! Wanda loved to dance, and there’s no doubt she’s dancing with Jesus and the angels right now. We are deeply saddened to lose our mama, our nana, our wife, our lunchroom lady, our sister and our friend, but we rejoice because Wanda is now free of any sickness or disease this world has to offer!
