Warren R. Jessup

Mr. Warren R. Jessup, age 85 of Mt. Airy passed away Friday, August 17, 2007 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Jessup was born June 10, 1922 in Surry County to the late Jake and Ella King Jessup. He was a lifelong resident of Westfield and retired from J P Stevens in 1984. Due to declining health he had resided for the past three years at Central Continuing Care where he made many friends with the staff and residents, and always enjoyed visits from his family and many friends. The love of family was his greatest joy. Mr. Jessup is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margie Bond Jessup of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Mabe of Walnut Cove, Sandra and Chester Shelton and Mike Norman all of Mt. Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Kelly Jessup of Pilot Mtn. The joy of his life were his seven grandchildren, Julie Taylor, Wendy Nichols, Brandy Dorto, Summer Shelton, Leslie Mabe, Daniel Jessup and Matthew Jessup and seven great grandchildren. Each morning when he was home he looked forward to his daily phone call from his dear sister, Rena Stewart of Westfield. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jessup was preceded in death by a cherished daughter, Kay Norman; a grandson, Chess Shelton and a son-in-law, Burley (Tommy) Mabe; sisters, Ada Hayden, Sadie Hooker, Ann Newman, Rosa Hooker, Carrie Hooker, Eva Hooker; brothers, Spencer, Bob, Jim, Tom, and Glenn Jessup and special aunt, Emma King. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 PM Sunday, August 19, 2007 at Mt. Herman United Methodist Church by Rev. Bud Cameron and Bishop J.C. Haymore with burial to follow in the church cemetery. His body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mt. Herman Cemetery Fund, c/o Carlton Jessup, 1219 Dearmin Rd, Westfield, NC 27053.
