Mr. Wayland Braxton Sasser, 72, of 3130 Old Highway 601, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2006, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Sasser was born November 2, 1934, in Geneva County, AL, to the late Richard Franklin and Metha Kirkland Sasser. He served our country in the United States Navy for 20 years. Following his retirement from the navy in 1972, he worked at Fleming Pest Control in Mount Airy. He attended First Baptist Church in Dobson. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Lucinda Bumgarner Sasser of the home; four stepsons and spouses, Wade Stover of Mount Airy, Wayne and Bonnie Bechdel and William and Mary Bechdel, all of Lock Haven, PA, and Robert and Gwyn Bechdel of Mill Hall, PA; seven stepgrandchildren; a great stepgrandchild; three sisters, Pansy Barton, Lela Pettis, and Lydia Powell, all of Panama City, FL; a brother and sister-in-law, Olan and Vera Sasser of Live Oak, FL; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sasser was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Margaret Fleming Sasser; and two brothers, Dallas Sasser and Sherwood Sasser. The funeral service will be held Thursday, November 30, 2006, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Michael Macon. Entombment will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Dobson First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 278, Dobson, NC 27017.
