Wayne Edward Barker, Sr.

Mr. Wayne Edward Barker, Sr., 74, of Mount Airy, passed away early Monday morning, April 1, 2019, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  Mr. Barker was born July 4, 1944, in Surry County, one of five children born to the late Edd McKinley “Kim” and Ethel Ferrell Barker.  Wayne worked at Spencer’s Inc. for more than 30 years and later retired from Burton Signworks.  He faithfully attended Westside Baptist Church.  Wayne is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ida Lou Linville Barker of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie Lynn and Tony Tilley of Ararat and Amy Lou and Bumper Sullivan of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Junior and Sharon Barker of Lowgap; his grandchildren, Mara Tilley and her fiancé, Grayson Vernon, Laken and Colby Haynes, Austin and Joanna Barker, Brady Tilley, Kaley Robinson, and Cassie Barker; a great-grandson, Henley Grant Haynes; his stepgrandchildren, Farren and Brooklyn Sullivan and Arizona Sullivan; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Joyce and Jerry Cassell and Mary Dean, all of Mount Airy, and Polly and Wayne Reid of Pilot Mountain; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Dianne Barker of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews.  The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 4, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Westside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Westside Baptist Church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC  27017.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
