Mr. Wayne Henry Monroe Westmoreland, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away early Saturday morning, February 11, 2023, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Westmoreland was born May 25, 1933, in Surry County, the son of the late Edward Cleveland and Viola Whitaker Westmoreland. Wayne served our country in the United States Army following the Korean Conflict. He retired as a self-employed carpenter, was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, and was a former member of Beck’s Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Randy Carico of Pinnacle and Debbie Lynn and David Snow of Harmony; seven sons and six daughters-in-law, Barry Dean and Darlene Westmoreland of Germanton, Charles Kevin and Debra Snider of Lexington, Terry Brian and Andrea Snider of Winston-Salem, Jerry Bradley and Tabitha Snider of Pilot Mountain, Douglas Issac Cox of South Carolina, and Timothy and Melissa Howard and Rusty and Lora Howard, all of Mocksville; fifteen grandchildren, Cassie Walker, Falon Snow, Holly Cartwright, Erica Snider, Dana Snider, Lauren Martin, Cody Angel, Grayson Snider, Justin Cox, Manda Ada Snider, Joseph Snider, Ava Snider, Jacob Johnson, Caleb Johnson, and Grayson Johnson; fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Orene Marsh of Pilot Mountain; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Westmoreland was preceded in death by two wives, Malinda Jane Snider Westmoreland and Joyce Alline Snider Westmoreland; three sisters, Iris May Shaw, Maggie Spencer, and Jane Jones; and five brothers, Cecil Westmoreland, Carl Westmoreland, Grover Westmoreland, Kenneth Westmoreland, and Lawrence Westmoreland. The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 16, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Epworth United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jack Danley and the Rev. Dennis W. “Bud” Cameron officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
