Grady “Wayne” Wilmoth, 87, of Elkin, passed away Friday, October 1, 2021, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born March 5,1934 in Surry County to the late Thomas Byrd and Stella Snow Wilmoth. Wayne is survived by his loving wife Edna Badgett Wilmoth of 70 years, daughter-in-law Debbie Wilmoth and son Eddie (deceased); daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Schwab and Bob; son and daughter-in-law, Sam Wilmoth and Amanda; grandchildren, Andrew and Carmen, Wes and Andrea, Marcus and MaryAnn, Eric, Jake, and Noah; great grandchildren, Brianna, Allie, Brody, Tess, Tayton, Jeryd, and Jonah. Wayne was one of eleven siblings and was preceded in death by six brothers, Spence and Maria(living), Kent, Tommy and Barbara (living), Alfred and Frances, Don and Hazel (living) and Bruce Wilmoth. Surviving are sisters and brother-in-law, Reva McDevitt and Mac (deceased), Catherine Current and Jim, Carolyn Flippen and Clay (deceased), sister-in-law, Bernice Callagan, and brother and sister-in-law, Michael “Pete” Wilmoth and Imogene; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wilmoth was a member of Salem Fork Christian Church Disciples of Christ since 1959 where he served as a Deacon and Trustee. He served on the board and various committees throughout the years and loved his church family. He worked as a water plant operator for the town of Dobson, and was a tobacco and chicken farmer. He will be remembered by his family and the community for his selflessness, always putting the needs of others before his own and for believing the best about others. He was a man who made a positive impact on the lives of so many; he lived a life that demonstrated a strong sense of the importance of family, loving unconditionally. His friendship and quiet wisdom will be missed by many.
Mr. Wilmoth will lie in state on Monday, October 4, 2021 from 10-11:00 AM at Salem Fork Christian Church. His celebration of life service will begin in the church at 11:00 AM with Pastor Austin Caviness officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall after the burial. The family respectfully asks that everyone be mindful of COVID as we gather to honor our loved one.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Fork Christian Church, 2490 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is serving the Wilmoth Family.
