Weldon McMillian

Mr. Weldon McMillian, 75, of 1838 Mount Herman Church Road, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, July 14, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. McMillian was born November 19, 1932, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Garland and Margaret Ayers McMillian. He attended Mount Herman United Methodist Church, served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and was an employee of Amos and Smith Hosiery for 32 years. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Jewell and Danny Jenkins and Christy and Danny Stevens, all of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, Jarred Jenkins and Haley Stevens, both of Mount Airy; and a sister, Belle Shupe of Hillsville, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. McMillian was preceded in death by his wife, Frances "Polly" Jessup McMillian; and a sister, Orene Hawks. The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 17, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Mount Herman United Methodist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Dennis W. "Bud" Cameron, the Rev. Harry Sherrill, and the Rev. Karen Branch, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7:00 to 9:00 at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service.
