Weldon Bryant "Dick" Smith, Sr

Mr. Weldon Bryant "Dick" Smith, Sr., 84, of 4082 Bear Trail, Cana, VA, passed away Sunday morning, November 16, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Smith was born January 16, 1924, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Herbert Swanson and Eliza Frances Strickland Smith. He was a self-employed orchardist and farmer for many years. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Nichols Smith of the home; a daughter, Marilyn Smith of Fairfax, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, Weldon Bryant "Butch" Smith, Jr. and Mildred Smith of Cana, VA; a grandson, Lee Cordell Smith of Cana, VA; two sisters-in-law, Beulah Smith of Cana, VA, and Myrtle Smith of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Gray, Laura Puckett, and Virginia Worrell; and three brothers, Hermit Smith, John Smith, and Charles Arnold Smith. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at 3:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Gary Easter and the Rev. Emmett Crotts, and burial will follow in the Mount Bethel Moravian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
