Wesley Melvin Hiatt

Mr. Wesley Melvin Hiatt, 76, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, June 6, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Hiatt was born November 20, 1934, in Carroll County, VA, the son of the late Arnold Marion and Ella Mae Hicks Hiatt. He retired from Perry Manufacturing and was a member of Woodland Baptist Church. He was a former member of the Franklin Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, Artis Jean Johnson Hiatt of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Randy Melvin and Tammy Hiatt and Ricky Dean Hiatt, Sr., all of Mount Airy; a grandchild, Little Ricky Hiatt, Jr., who he dearly loved; a sister, Mary Faye Hiatt of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Carol Hiatt of Cana, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hiatt was preceded in death by six brothers, Johnny, Marion, Frank, Donald Gray, Billy Ray, and Junior Hiatt. A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 9, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Leonard Cemetery, with the Rev. Jimmy Slate and the Rev. Tommy Floyd officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, and at the Hiatt home on Wednesday from 6:00 until 9:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
