William Alvin Belcher

           Mr. William Alvin Belcher, age 89 of Woolwine, passed away Friday, March 29, 2019 at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC.  He was born in Patrick County on January 13, 1930 to the late Elmer Green Belcher and Lola Jane Wood Belcher.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Wendy Haden Martin; a great-great grandson, Carson Haden; and two brothers, Lemuel and Glen Belcher.  Alvin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He was a member of Smith River Church of the Brethren and loved older model cars and pick-ups.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

            Surviving are his beloved wife of 66 years, Charlotte Conner Belcher of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and James Ingle of Stuart; two sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Diana Belcher of Woolwine, Bennie and Michele Belcher of Woolwine; four grandchildren, Jessica Rakes, Christy Harbour, Holly Boothe, Eric Belcher; six great grandchildren, Dustin Haden, Heather Martin, Brittany Rakes, Christian Rakes, Braxton Rakes, Cayleigh Harbour; one step great grandchild, Abel Bryant; one great-great grandchild, Raelynn Haden; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Oneda Conner of Woolwine, Freda and Barney Whitlow of Check, Aylees and Alfred Turner of Stuart; one brother and sister-in-law, Elvin and Lorna Belcher of Woolwine; and several nieces and nephews.

            Funeral services will be held Monday, April 1, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Danny Gilley officiating.  Burial will follow in the Woolwine Cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 at the funeral home.  Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017 or to the Smith River Church of the Brethren, 1386 Bob White Rd., Stuart, VA 24171.  Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
