William Bryant Boyd, Sr


Mr. William Bryant Boyd, Sr., 84, of 1185 North Franklin Road, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at Central Continuing Care. He was born February 2, 1926, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Winton and Cora Thompson Boyd. He retired from The Corner Store and was a member of Midway Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Emma Gwynn Boyd of the home; a daughter, Marie Boyd Hawks of Sandy Ridge; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Linda Boyd and Troy and Kallie Boyd, all of Mount Airy, and Bobby and Melissa Boyd of Dobson; nine grandchildren, Willie Hawks, Monroe Hawks, Joey Hawks, Mike Hawks, Christie Gwyn, Misty Martin, Doug Vaughn, Dennis George, and Timothy Beck; and several great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Boyd was preceded in death by his step-father, Obie Harold; a brother, Arthur Boyd; a grandson, Homer Hawks; and a son-in-law, Bill Hawks. The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. James Gentry and the Rev. Randy Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff at Central Continuing Care and Penny Culler with Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for their love and compassion during Mr. Boyd's illness.
