William Clayton Combs

Mr. William Clayton Combs, 81, of Cana, VA passed away at Northern Regional Hospital, Thursday, February 17, 2022.  He was born in Carroll County, VA, December 23, 1940, to the late Dolphus “Dolph” and Neva Cook Combs.  Clayton bravely served in the U.S. Army.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and dear friend to many.  Clayton cherished his family which was obvious with every word spoken about them, which always followed with a huge smile.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ethel King Combs, his sons and daughter-in-law, Jason Combs, and Jarrett and Leslie Combs; his grandsons, Clay and Crew Combs; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara Jo and Ronald Jarrell; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Dot Combs; stepsisters, Irene King, Willie Sue Hanner, Imogene Combs, and Helen Hiatt; and many loved nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Clayton was preceded in death by his stepmother, Mary Emily “Mamie” Hall Combs; sisters, Virginia Dare “Pat” King, Minnie Combs, and Myrtle Melton; brother, Bobby Combs; stepsister, Betty Gentry; and stepbrothers, Bernie, and Clyde Johnson.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, February 21, 2022, at Oak Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. David Sechrist, Rev. Rusty Reed, and Rev. George Randall officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by VFW Post 2019 Mt. Airy and Post 9436 Pilot Mountain.   The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, February 21, 2022.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
