Mr. William Green Hall, Sr., 85, of 127 Alton Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Hall was born January 18, 1924, in Patrick County, VA, to the late James William and Elizabeth Bowman Hall. He served our country in the United States Army during World War II in the invasion of Normandy. As a result of his bravery, he was a recipient of several bronze stars. Mr. Hall retired from McLean Trucking Company after 33 years of service and was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Dolores Hall Taylor of Elkin; a son, Bill Hall of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, Shawnda Taylor Miller of Elkin and Charles Ted "Chuck" Taylor, II and his wife, Allison, of Mount Airy; five great-grandchildren, Vaughn Hagen Miller, Elizabeth Paige Miller, and Andrew Franklin Miller, all of Elkin, and Olivia Grace Taylor and Emory Faith Taylor, both of Mount Airy; a half-sister, Vergie Hawks of Ararat, VA; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Chris Childress of Jonesville. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Clarice Essie Sutphin Hall, who passed away June 26, 2009; eight sisters, Wavie Woodall, Lelia Smith, Nova Newman, Verda Eades, Sally Slate, Bertha Noonkester, Nannie Smith, and Myrtle Inscore; three brothers, James Hall, N.T. Hall, and Robert Hall; and a half-sister, Helen Collins. The funeral service will be held Sunday, September 13, 2009, at 4:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Todd E. Byrd officiating. Entombment will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
