Mr. William Harry (Bill) Rountree, age 80, of Mount Airy passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Gaston County on May 21, 1944, the son of the late Glenn and Jackie Rountree. Mr. Rountree grew up in Grover, NC and graduated from Shelby High School in Shelby, NC. Playing football for the Shelby Lions led the way for an opportunity to play football for a brief time at Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. from which he graduated. From college he entered the Army as an officer serving in Viet Nam. Most of his early career was dedicated to the textile industry throughout North Carolina. The part of his life led him to find his heart in ministry, graduating from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, VA. His ministry led him to pastor Mary Horner Walker Memorial Presbyterian Church in Claudville, VA for over ten years. Whether you knew him as Bill, Bubba, Krusty, Preacher Man, or Tweeter’s human, you were blessed by his love of God and more importantly his giving heart. He lived as an example of how to have an altruistic heart. He served his country, his God, and his community with dedication and honor. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Jane Loflen Rountree; daughter, Laura Rountree Winter and husband, Bill; grandsons, Liam Overby, Chapel Overby; granddaughters, Reed Winter Scanlan and husband, Mike, Rudy Winter, Louise Winter; great granddaughter, Elizabeth Rose (Libby) Scanlan; brother Joe Rountree and wife Patsy; sister Holly Godfrey and husband, Paul; many special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Charles Glenn Rountree and sister Jaquitha Rountree Reid. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church of Mount Airy with Dr. Fritz Ritsch and Dr. Steve Lindsley officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30-1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 326 South Main St., Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to Surry Animal Rescue, PO Box 981, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Service of Mount Airy is serving the Rountree family.
