William Henry McCann

Mr. William Henry McCann, age 81 of Lowgap, widower of Ruby Ethel Hiatt McCann, passed away Thursday, December 07, 2006 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. McCann was born in Surry County, January 29, 1925 to Ruben and Verlie Blevins McCann. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and was a retired farmer. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Julian Anthony of Lowgap; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Linda McCann also of Lowgap; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hattie Dixon of Lowgap; Retha and Charles Bauguess of State Road; Alene and Tommy Golding also of State Road; and Norma and Garnett Newman of Mt. Airy. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. McCann was preceded in death by sisters, Magalene Anthony and Rosie Bullins and brothers, Grover, Ezra, Clayton, Ray, Foley and Robert McCann. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 9, 2006 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Bobby Bullins and Rev. Arwood Edwards. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 7:00 to 9:00 at Moody Funeral Home where his body will remain until the time to be taken to the church to lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service.
