William Eugene "Bill" Poindexter

Mr. William Eugene "Bill" Poindexter age 82, of Dobson passed away on Saturday morning August 9, 2008 at the Hugh Chatham Nursing Center in Elkin. He was born in Surry County on November 5, 1925 to the late James Emmitt and Nannie Campbell Poindexter. He was a retired Farmer and served in the US Army Infantry 69th Division, during World War II. Surviving is his wife Betty Disher Poindexter of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law William Andrew "Drew" and Tracy Poindexter of Dobson, Zane Disher and Lori Poindexter of Mt. Airy; four grandchildren Salem Poindexter, Stratton Poindexter, Holden Poindexter and Avery Poindexter; two sisters and brothers-in-law Peggy and George Hobson of Boonville, Susie and John Pyles of Dobson; one brother and sister-in-law Wilson and Carol Poindexter of Dobson. A Graveside service will be held 6:30 PM Monday August 11, 2008 in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors by the Grover King VFW Post 1115 Hillsville, Virginia. The family will receive friends at Fairview Baptist Church following the Graveside services in the Church Fellowship Hall, and at other times at his home 8418 Hwy 601, Dobson, NC 27017. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 401 Technology Lane Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or to the Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital Building Fund 180 Parkwood Dr. Elkin, NC 28621.
